Odden Science - Core 1

My class and I conducted a lab, the "Alka Seltzer Lava Lamp" lab. We'd conducted this lab, but after learning more about the basics of chemical science we were able to observe more about this lab and explain it in detail. Below is a video where  demonstrated my knowledge by explaining the lab in a more detailed and specific way.

In Mrs. Oddens 8th-grade core 1 science class, we have been learning all about matter and properties of matter. We did a lab named the lava lamp lab. We are all familiar with the lava lamp, but we are using the knowledge we have learned about matter and applying it to the real world. I used the law of suspension

                 We had to make a video in 8th Grade science at Alan B. Shepard Middle School. We had a lab where we made a lava lamp. But we had to look at it from a science perspective. We had to colete our lab and then describe what science terms happen in the 5 minute lab. In my video I thoroughly explain what happens and when. Hope you enjoy!

In this video, you will learn how this lab used matter.  In class, we performed this lab and learned a lot about matter. This lab had many different examples of the destruction of matter. If you watch then you will be able to really understand how this worked and why each ingredient was important.

In the lab, we separated oil and water into a suspension, then put food coloring that submerged into the water and lastly dropped an alka seltzer tablet in the substance causing a reaction. This unit in school we are learning about the properties and structures of matter. Although, we have all done this experiment many times before and  I realized that I noticed different things each time. I hope you take a look to see my observations!

SCIENTIFIC EXPLANATION OF THE ALKA SELTZER LAVA LAMP LAB! In science, we put Alka seltzer, oil, and water into a water bottle and it was crazy. We learned about the properties and structure of Matter!

In class, we learned about the structure and properties of matter. Before the unit, I had seen a lava lamp before, but after the unit I was able to realize all the science behind them. A homemade lava lamp can be made using water, food coloring, oil and an alka-seltzer tablet. During the process of making a homemade lava lamp, we were able to observe all the reactions that were going on. Watch the video below to learn about all the science behind lava lamps!
